Easy Access to Parts and Upgrades:

February 26th, 2010

Why it’s so Important in the Jumping Stilt Industry?

Most brands of Jumping Stilts have, as their core, a light

weight, carefully engineered aluminum frame.  These units

have other attachment parts that allow the units to function:

springs, feet, leg braces.

Like the tires on a bike, or shoes on your feet…..these

attachments can wear out….or need upgrading.   These

attachments are also the parts most susceptible to damage on

big crashes.

Damage on Big Crashes?

Yes, like a bike, skateboard, or even a car; if you crash the

well- built, carefully engineered, bike or car hard enough,

they can be damaged.   It can happen.

Also, bockers include the full spectrum of people.  Many are

moderate adrenalin freaks, yet also many are extreme

loonatics; like the Olympic Half  Pipe type of guys.
Out there!  These type of bockers, keep upgrading their units

as they become more experienced.  Their  new strength and

stamina allows them to go bigger, on bigger springs.  It

happens.

Anyway, when or if, the time to buy parts arrives, you will

need easy access to quality replacement parts.  Each of the

USA’s brand licensees should have a good stock of

replacement parts.  If you want quick fulfillment, whether

you purchase your jumping stilts in a store, or online, I

recommend calling your brand licensees.

The people at Air-Trekkers.com, a USA Jumping Stilt licensee,

offer to their buyers a one year warranty on all parts.  The feet

have a (6) month warranty.  They offer replacement parts to

THEIR BUYERS at cost, plus shipping in some cases.  That’s

25% below wholesale.  (A pair of springs can be had for

$100.00.)

Better yet, the staff at Air-Trekkers can have your order on

the docks within 24 hours.

As you gain experience, and confidence on your Jumping

Stilts, you will try more radical manuevers.  Initially these

manuevers don’t always work out the way you intend.   Easy

access to quality parts at rock bottom prices is a great

convenience.

Happy Bocking.

2010 Youth Model - Feedback

January 26th, 2010

2010 Youth Model Feedback (1-26-10)

1.    Many people have called and asked, “Should I get my son the youth model or the smallest adult model - M60?”

If your son/daughter is 13 years old, weighs at least 110 pounds, and is 5 ft. 3 inches tall or taller, then they can buy the Adult Model.   If they are under any of the 3 criteria above, they should use the Youth Model.  The adult model is for teenagers and adults.  They are heavier and much bigger.  Even if you think your 12 year old is big and bold, they simply will not be able to handle the adult model’s size.  And you want your kids to have FUN!!

What size Youth Model should I buy?

Currently we are importing 2 Youth Model sizes.  The F50s are for larger kids.  Even though we advertise that they are for 90-110 pounders, the feedback from holiday shoppers is that kids should be 100-110 pounds to really enjoy the F50s.

WHY?  The new youth models are completely retooled and the springs are manufactured with newer technologies.  They are much stiffer than the 2009 models.  Several lighter, F50 buyers have called and said they can not bend the springs very well.  Time will loosen the springs but we want your kids to use the Air-Trekkers, and have fun.   Kids have fun when they can bounce around with minimal effort.

The F30s are what 90% of kids should be buying.  95-100 pounders will even enjoy the F30s.   The new springs will support these weight loads.   The F30s are a great and safe beginner product that everyone on the block will enjoy!!!!

If my weight is on the edge of two weight categories - what size should I buy?

January 20th, 2010

The one question that was asked most over the 2009 holidays was:

What weight category should I buy if my weight is right on the edge of a weight category?  For example:  130 lbs, 155 lbs, 175 lbs, or 200 lbs.

Well if you browse the internet you may find many different answers, but after selling many thousands of jumping stilts and listening to buyers’ opinions on a daily basis, here’s what I recommend:

It all comes down to your intentions, your personal aggressiveness and your age……….

INTENTIONS:

Remember, as with any new sporting activity, there is a learning curve when you start using jumping stilts.  For the average person this learning curve seems to be around 10-14 days of actual use.  For some it’s much shorter.

If you are buying jumping stilts for fun, or running, maybe a workout replacement, or just to be a show off…….if you want the units to be very springy on day one……..if you want to grasp the concept of jumping stilts quickly……..if you are not the most aggressive person on your block……or if you plan on sharing your units with friends – other newbies……..and if you do not have intentions of trying to jump as high as you can in the first month or two….…..then you may want to buy the weight category below.   You will have more fun!

Buying below will allow you to bend the springs without much effort.  Also, when you start using jumping stilts your legs will feel like noodles, so bending the springs without much effort is a bit rewarding.

The down side to buying the weight category below is – in a month you will get stronger, much stronger.  Once you learn the concept of using jumping stilts and discover how to put energy into the springs, there is an inherent need to go big.  Going big when using a lower weight category has it’s drawbacks.   If you buy a spring in the weight category below, you may bottom out on your springs.   And when you bottom out – you can not go any higher.   Some will say – “so what – I love these springy units and 95% of the time they give me all I ask.  I have no need to jump over cars or sit in basketball rims.”

Remember, you can always buy the next size up “springs”.   Alpine Innovations, LLC stocks all sizes of springs.  Some people have 2-3 different sizes for different occasions and intentions.  You do not need to buy a new unit to get bigger springs!

On the other hand – if you want to eventually jump very high…….if you are a self-proclaimed adrenaline junkie………..if jumping over hedges, over cars, onto second story balconies……..even performing multiple flips gets your blood boiling……….you should buy the higher weight category.  The springs, however, will feel stiff for most of you during the first few weeks.   As you walk around during the first week or two, the springs may bend very little.  At times you may feel like your jumping stilts are more like wooden stilts instead of stilts with springs.  In my opinion that’s OK.  Do not judge your springs or you ability to use the springs during the first 2-3 weeks.

Remember there is a learning curve?  The learning curve is not only about learning how to generate energy in the springs, it’s also about developing leg and core strength.  Using jumping stilts is a new activity for your body.  Your muscles are not used to these types of movements.  Be patient, and don’t over train during the first few weeks.  Allow your body to get used to the new movements.  If you go hard on day two, you could easily stress a body part.

After 2-3 weeks of continual use you will begin to feel very comfortable with the big springs.  Your ability to jump and store energy will greatly increase.  If you try to go big, the springs will give you everything you need – for years!!  You will never bottom out…….at least most of you won’t.   I have had gymnasts move through several weight categories in the first couple of weeks.  But that is an exception.

This article is for those with a weight right on the edge of a weight category.  Everyone else SHOULD BUY THEIR APPROPRIATE WEIGHT CATEGORY to start.
AGE:

If you are over 35, you should buy the lower category to start out. The new movements and the bouncing won’t be such a shock to your legs.

I hope this helps your buying decision…..and please let us know how you are doing after the first few weeks! Now you know what size jumping stilts to buy go do it!

Cheers,

Fall Jumping Stilts Contest

August 25th, 2009

Jumping Stilts Contest

The staff at Alpine Innovations, LLC hope that all of you are having a fun and exciting summer. This is a great time to refine your skills, experiment with new tricks,  and show off your new super human abilities.  Because summer is typically when bockers raise the bar on skill levels, we thought now would be a good time to hold a contest to see just how skilled you have become.

With almost 2 full years of US distribution under our belt and literally thousands of units sold, Air-Trekker Jumping Stilts seem to be the USA jumping stilt brand of choice.  But it’s not about our company or even the units themselves.  It’s about YOU!!  How strong have you become?  How creative?  What can you do on your Air-Trekkers that no one else can do?  We want to know!

So we are turning our attention to YOU……to show us what you can do on your Air-Trekkers.  But we understand that in life asking for something without giving more in return is not only impolite - it’s rude.  So we want to reward you for showing us what you can do.  How?

We are going to hold the first ever USA jumping stilt video contest.  The Europeans have been holding contests for some time now.  Well it’s time for the good ole USA to step up and show the folks across the pond what we can do on jumping stilts.

Because it’s the first of its kind in the USA, we want to keep it simple - yet rewarding.  We will have two categories.  The winner of each category, voted by you, will receive a $200.00 gift certificate to a fine diner in your town.  This prize will allow you, and a group of your friends, to hit the town in style at our expense.  Sound fair?

So here’s the two categories:

1. Most creative single leap.  (You can use any type of prop, costume, wall, ledge, auto, etc…….. you want.  Your peers will vote.)

2. Most creative (3) consecutive leaps.   (Again, you use can use any type of prop, costume, wall, creek, ledge, auto, etc…….you want…..but the 3 leaps must be connected.  Your peers will vote.)

So here’s how to enter and qualify:

1. Must own Air-Trekkers

2. Must not currently get paid to perform on Air-Trekkers.  (Sorry guys.)  No professional performers at this time.  I’ve seen your performances - it’d be a bit unfair.

3. Can use any model or weight category……even kids models qualify.   We’re advocates of equal rights - so no gender categories.

4. Submit your video to  www.youtube.com

5. E-mail me the link to your video admin@air-trekkers.com

6. We will post each video on the Air-Trekker.com blog.   You can vote by commenting on which video you like best.  Voting will begin on 9-20-09.  You have four weeks to refine your skills and submit your entry.

7. Your vote can be counted twice if you digg or stumble one of the videos. (will need proof)

8. You can chat with your fellow bockers on the Jumpingstilts.com forum to see what or how others are doing….and to stay updated.

9. On 10-10-09, we will announce, and show, the winning two videos - they must be different people -  on our website, our blog, and the forum.

10. We will contact the winners, contact a nice restaurant in your town, and send you the prize!

11.  It just would not be fun, or complete, if we didn’t have a special category.  An entertainment category.  A CRASH category!  We know all too well that when bocking accidents happen.  WE ARE NOT advocating you purposely film for this category, but if you do happen to have the camera running while you take a spill - submit it.  Also voted by you peers, the BEST CRASH video will get a $50.00 gift certificate to a restaurant in your town!

Canadian Doctors Worried About Jumping Stilt Injuries

August 20th, 2009
Doctors concerns are raised over the recent commercialization of jumping stilts in Canada. They are worried about head injuries suffered by people who practice “powerbocking.”
Jumping stilts are shiny, metallic, curved springs that are strapped on just below the knee and vendors say they allow users to jump higher, run faster and even perform acrobatic back-flips. Each boot consists of a foot-plate with snowboard type bindings, rubber foot pad which is also commonly called a hoof, and a carbon fibreglass leaf spring.

Using only their weight,  the user is generally able to jump 4-7 ft off the ground and run up to 20 mph. They also give the ability to take up to 9-foot strides. Amongst hobbyists, they are referred to as powerbocks, (”bocks” for short), in honor of the inventor Alexander Boeck.

Recently, they were brought to world attention when 200 people performed on them at the closing ceremonies of the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, reported the Canadian Press. Dr. Scott Delaney, a sports medicine physician for the Montreal Alouettes and the Montreal Impact soccer team, says he’s worried about head and upper body injuries. Delaney said in an interview, “They are upwards of 18 inches off the ground, so when they fall they’re going to be falling straight on their head if they fall backwards. I just really worry.” Marlyn Gagne, a Montreal distributor for the Power Strider brand in Canada, says the stilts are no more dangerous than in-line skates and added,

I would say it’s safer because it’s easier to keep your balance than it is on skates.

Gary Armstrong ,the global licensee for the brand Air-Trekkers, says that after 30 months of distribution there have been no serious injuries in the USA.  “It’s silly for people to comment on a product that they have never used or seen used.  Most parent’s first comments are,  “they are too dangerous”.   History has shown us otherwise.  If one wears the proper safety gear, is initially cautious, reads the guide manual, watches the instruction videos, and patiently learns how to properly use the units - they discover that jumping stilts aren’t nearly as dangerous as one would think.

IF you are interest in purchasing a pair of jumping stilts we suggest checking out Air-Trekkers which can be purchased for as little as $269 which includes free shipping to your door.

Jumping Stilts Tribute to Michael Jackson

August 19th, 2009

I was searching youtube.com for the latest jumping stilts video and I stumbled across this video which was made as a tribute to the late king of pop.  Whether you’re a Jackson fan or not this video has some pretty sweet pix of some guys getting serious air on their jumping stilts.
